The Mississippi Lakes Association (MLA) was formed in 1944.  It was incorporated in 2002 under the Canada Corporations Act.

New federal legislation, the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (NFP Act) came into force on 17 October 2011. Under this Act, existing corporations were required to apply for transition to the new regulations.  Failure to do so by 17 Oct 2014 would have resulted in the dissolution of the MLA. The MLA then applied to Industry Canada for continuance under the NFP Act, and the application was duly approved effective 24 Jun 2014.

The Articles of Continuance and By-law #1 were approved at the 2014 AGM.

The Articles were amended and approved at the 2021 AGM

By-law #1 was also updated and approved at the 2021 AGM
